Chromesthesia Music Library, or CML for short, is a psychedelic jazz fusion band based out of Denver, releasing a new album this Christmas, 2023. This new musical creation is the brainchild of band member and composer Chris Johnson, delving into the audio visual experiences of a Denver Metro Area delivery driver with Chromesthesia ( a type of synesthesia in which sound involuntarily evokes an experience of color, shapes and movement).
Inspired by the labels of KPM, Bruton, De Wolfe, & other institutions of library music of the 1970s, invoking the sounds of Mansfield and Hawkshaw, as well as a touch of Jazz Fusion Soundtrack sensibilities, Falling in & out of love with Denver is a unique instrumental journey through the City of Denver. With songs named after streets and areas of the city, like Santa Fe...Downtown...West Colfax...the band moves you through a full traffic jam of emotions. Chris Johnson, Cambo Risch and Ben Mund AKA Chewy, CamBo & Benzoite started the writing process in 2021 and moved onto recording in mid 2022, adding Kirk Clausen onto the team as engineer & producer, finishing the recording and mastering process in 2023, just in time for a Christmas release. UPDATE 2026 Due to the chaos of the world Chromesthesia Music Library became unsustainable in its Original form . Kirk has been holding down the groove for us for about a year now. Kirk brings stability to the project. I feel like I have grown so much in this space working with Chris and Kirk. Cambos contributions to the record were the sound of the album . The way Cambo plays make you feel like bad ass. The first time I heard the guitar work on falling I just was so impressed.I had played that with 20 other musician over the years but the way he made that sound it was what it is. Cam you are loved and respected thank you for your contributions we look forward to working with you again some day. Currently the working name is Scam Likely. Capturing the visual side of a chromesthetic experience proves to be an interesting challenge and Chris Johnson has explored the realms of analog modular video synthesizers, CRT feedback and glitchy video tape decks in combination with the music of CML to shed a little insight into his daily realities. The impressions of the music, in conjunction with the wistful memories of Denver architecture long since demolished, give way to visually stunning sonic endeavours. The musical ebb and flow of West Colfax produced some interesting results to both the ears and the eyes…
